Single head-end and security architecture for expansion to PCs

Widevine Cypher offers a truly convergent head-end solution. Cypher for the PC enables existing Widevine operators to leverage the existing Cypher head-end for secure delivery to PCs. Widevine operators, who initially deploy Cypher for the PC, can likewise leverage their Cypher head-end for future set top box, mobile phone and portable device delivery. For cable operators, an investment in Cypher for the PC today will seamlessly support FCC mandated separable security (DCAS) on set top boxes in the future.

Cypher for the PC combines renewable client security and digital copy protection for the highly dynamic and vulnerable PC environment. During distribution across a CDN or P2P network, the Cypher for the PC client keeps track of the receipt, storage and decryption of premium content.

After decryption, the Cypher PC client utilizes patented digital copy protection techniques to further monitor content in the “digital hole”—the location within PCs where content is unprotected. As piracy behaviors are detected it evolves response mechanisms to thwart future attacks. This real-time piracy detection and response enables operators to track content post-decryption and deploy countermeasures to stop it.

Regular software updates keep consumer devices using the Cypher PC client up-to-date and protected against the latest piracy techniques. Responses to piracy are customizable to meet content owner and operator requirements.
