Widevine Technologies, Inc. Unveils Executive Team Featuring World Class Talent in Internet Content Delivery And Internet Streaming Media Technology Development
Widevine Announces $11.5 Million Round of Funding, Investors Including Constellation Ventures, Charter Ventures, The Phoenix Partners and Strategic Angel Investors
Seattle, WA, September 21, 2000 – Widevine Technologies, Inc. announced today its core management team, including many of the pioneers in the development of Internet content delivery technology. Widevine, a leader in value-added technologies for Internet streaming media, has recruited top-notch talent from across the country to assist in developing products to for total control of streaming media.
The company also revealed an initial $11.5 million round of funding, with key strategic investors including Constellation Ventures, Charter Ventures, The Phoenix Partners, and several strategic angel investors including Lorenzo DiBonaventura (President of Worldwide Distribution, Warner Brothers), David Erickson (Head of Internet Capital Markets, Lehman Brothers), and Israel Hernandez (Chief Analyst for Streaming Media, Lehman Brothers).

The leadership team is made up of a number of senior managers joining Widevine from companies such as AT&T, Microsoft, Apple, RealNetworks and Rivals.com. In addition, Widevine is well staffed with senior programmers and engineers recognized as leaders in their respective fields of encryption, recognition technologies, streaming media, and network infrastructure.

Widevine's core management team consists of:
- John Beyer, Chief Executive Officer. Prior to joining Widevine, Beyer served in senior management and corporate leadership positions, including his role as Vice President and Managing Director of Europe at RealNetworks. He has also served in senior roles at AT&T Wireless/McCaw Cellular ATG Division. Additionally, he served as CEO and President of Digital Data Networks and Chairman of Cogifer, Inc., a French switch manufacturer.
- Brian Baker, Co-Founder and President. With a background in computer science and entrepreneurial studies, Baker is academically affiliated with and a graduate of the University of Washington School of Business. Baker is a senior strategic, technical and business decision-maker, and plays a primary role in securing investment capital.
- Jeff Rice, Chief Operating Officer has significant experience in building successful global companies and in securing strategic investments to support corporate growth and product development initiatives. Prior to joining Widevine, Rice served as Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer of Rivals.com, Inc, an Internet sports network. Rice also was responsible for launching the company's European Operations and served on the Board of Directors for Rivals Europe. In addition to his new media expertise, Rice brings to Widevine considerable expertise in financial markets. Previous to his stint at Rivals.com, Rice was Co-founder, President, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Operating Officer of Bay Mortgage Co. in Bellevue, WA, one the Northwest's most prominent mortgage lenders.
- Mike Kaplan, Chief Financial Officer. Kaplan has extensive experience and a strong fundamental understanding of business and financial planning. Prior to joining Widevine, he was a strategic business consultant with Marakon Associates in Manhattan, and has also worked in the field of international finance at OTP Bank of Hungary.
- Brad Kollmyer, Chief Technical Officer. Kollmyer oversees Widevine's technology design, architecture, and implementation, and has years of experience in networking, streaming media, and application development. Kollmyer leads the management and recruiting of senior science and development talent.
- Reza Rassool, Chief Engineer. Rassool brings over 15 years of experience in project management and engineering in audio and video systems to his role as the coordinator of the engineering groups at Widevine. Previously, he served as chief engineer of AV editing products at Micropolis/Streamlogic and eventually moved to a private consultancy where he managed projects for Tribune Broadcasting and Chyron Corporation.
- Jeremy Horwitz, Co-Founder and Vice President of Research and Development. Horwitz handles the research and development operations of Widevine. In the past, he has worked at AT&T Research and Microsoft, and has published several papers on topics relating to cryptography.
- Jonathan Wright, General Counsel. Wright has over eight years experience representing technology start-ups and public companies. Prior to joining Widevine, he was corporate counsel of Corbis Corporation, a privately held media company. Previously, he also was an attorney for Heller, Ehrman, White & McAuliffe. He has a J.D. from Columbia University.
