Activate Debuts Enhanced Security System for Streaming Media Technology

Flexible Service Combines Widevine Cypher™ Encryption on the Fly™ Technology With Activate's Security Features, Including User Authentication, Stream Authorization and Controlled Distribution

Seattle, WA, June 18, 2001 – Activate, the leading provider of Webcasting solutions, today announced the industry's most advanced security system for Webcasts, providing enterprise customers with state-of-the-art streaming media protection. The system is scalable and flexible, offering three levels of security protection against unauthorized users accessing confidential content over the Internet, including implementation of on-the-fly encryption of live events.

Activate's enhanced security system is adaptable, offering easy integration into existing registration and e-commerce systems. Corporations and organizations can use Activate's streaming media security features to protect their valuable intellectual property and proprietary communications using the world's first "encryption on the fly"™ solution from Widevine Technologies™.

"For an enterprise to fully leverage the benefits of Webcasting, proprietary and confidential content must be protected. Activate is leading the charge in facilitating greater awareness of the important security issues that impact the adoption of streaming media," said Jeff Schrock, Activate CEO and founder. "Our security system features innovative technologies and is designed to give enterprise customers peace of mind that their sensitive corporate information is protected."

With this new system, customers can choose from three levels of content security and gain protection for each unique event, including user authentication, stream authorization and controlled distribution.

  • Activate's Level 1 security provides password protection and is the standard level of protection. Customers employ Level 1 security when attendance taking or marketing data collection is necessary.
  • Activate's Level 2 security protects links from unauthorized access, such as illicit "sharing" of links through email and cut-and-paste. Each request for content is authorized prior to stream delivery.
  • Activate's Level 3 security provides the highest level of content security, protecting a stream from being intercepted as it is transmitted across the Internet or saved for unauthorized distribution. It employs the powerful "encryption on the fly" technology, Widevine Cypher™. A product of Widevine Technologies, Widevine Cypher is a patent pending communications security technology that encrypts streaming media.

The following illustrates each security level, type of protection and customer need:
