nCUBE and Widevine Technologies Join Forces To Deliver Powerful, Fast and Secure Video Content
Integrated Solution will Empower Broadband Service Operators with Widevine's
"Encryption on the Fly"™ Communications Security Coupled with nCUBE's Scalability and Throughput
San Francisco, CA & Seattle, WA, October 30, 2001 – nCUBE Corporation and Widevine Technologies today announced an agreement to offer "encryption on the fly" streaming media security solutions to broadband service operators. Integrating nCUBE's n4 Streaming Media Appliance with Widevine's Widevine Cypher and Widevine VOD™ solutions, the companies will provide broadband service operators, media companies and entertainment companies a secure means for deploying digital content on-demand to consumer devices such as the personal computer and television set-top box.
"Securing valuable and proprietary digital content from being stolen, hacked or otherwise compromised is a top priority for our existing and prospective customers," said Michael Pohl, President of nCUBE. "nCUBE and Widevine will fill the security hole that is facing broadband operators and the entertainment industry."
nCUBE is a leading worldwide provider of scalable streaming media solutions for all broadband networks - cable, DSL and IP. nCUBE's streaming technology gives consumers full VCR functionality when viewing movies and other interactive programs on their PCs and television sets. nCUBE's n4 Streaming Media Appliance leads the market in both of the areas that matter most to broadband service providers: throughput and scalability. nCUBE's unique hypercube interconnect architecture provides unmatched scalability, reliability and flexibility for applications such as video-on-demand (VOD) and network personal video recording (nPVR). The n4 introduces the capability to effectively stream "standards-based" mid-band video over IP networks. nCUBE is partnering with pioneers who are on the forefront of this evolving technology including RealNetworks.
"The impressive global presence of nCUBE greatly expands the customer base to which we are able to market secure communications services of Widevine Cypher and Widevine VOD," said John Beyer, chief executive officer, Widevine Technologies. "Now, more than ever content providers insist on the highest standard of security. This partnership meets that demand for existing customers, and promises to address the needs of many new customers that wish to initially deploy content with security."
Widevine Cypher is the world's first truly complete streaming media security solution, offering near total transparency at both the server and client end and incorporating client-side anti-tampering technology for broadcast and traditional VOD content. Widevine Cypher's patent-pending "encryption-on-the-fly" architecture implements security in a network bridge, rather than adding it to streaming servers. All streaming traffic passing through the bridge is secured, regardless of media format.
Widevine VOD can be co-developed for a specific VOD product in development, or deployed in an existing set-top box or network. Widevine VOD has the power to secure digital content as it travels through the pipe to a set-top box, PVR or hand-held device. It can then secure that same content during playback, helping to alleviate security concerns and speed deployment VOD services.
