Vividon and Widevine Technologies Join Forces to Offer a Secure and Cost-Effective Internet Streaming Delivery Solution
Alliance Allows Secure and Powerful Delivery of Rich Media Content for the Video-on-Demand Needs of Service Providers and Enterprise Networks
Sudbury, MA & Seattle, WA, November 13, 2001 – Widevine Technologies today announced a partnership with Vividon, Inc., the provider of Internet infrastructure devices that radically improve the economics of streaming media delivery. The partnership assures secure delivery of streaming media content by combining Widevine's innovative digital rights management technology with Vividon's high-performance Streaming Delivery System.
"In addition to needing a highly reliable streaming infrastructure, service providers and large corporations require additional security for content that is either confidential in nature or highly-valued as a corporate asset," said David Ellenberger, Vividon President and CEO. "Widevine's powerful encryption technology allows Vividon to address this growing need with a best-in-class approach for secure, high-performance streaming."
Working in collaboration, the two companies will integrate Widevine's "encryption on the fly" products, Widevine Cypher and Widevine VOD with Vividon's family of Streaming Delivery Accelerators (SDAs) and Vividon Service Manager (VSM). This partnership will result in the highest-performing secure streaming delivery system for on-demand content.
"The fusion of Vividon's streaming delivery devices and Widevine's persistent, session-based products, creates a new standard in secured content delivery," said John Beyer, CEO, Widevine Technologies. "Together, our products provide an extremely cost-effective option for secure streaming media delivery over the Internet."
Vividon is unmatched in its ability to deliver on-demand streams of rich-media content. Vividon's streamers, a new class of streaming delivery devices, improve the delivery of streaming audio and video by eliminating network bottlenecks while providing a high-quality, cost-effective streaming experience to thousands of simultaneous users. The Vividon system, the first to pass Microsoft Windows Media Interoperability Testing, provides sustainable throughput capabilities to support more than 650 megabits per second of unique content streams pulled from disk in a single low-profile device.
Widevine Cypher is the world's first truly complete streaming media security solution, offering near total transparency at both the server and client end and incorporating client-side anti-tampering technology for broadcast and traditional VOD content. Widevine Cypher's patent-pending "encryption-on-the-fly" architecture implements security in a network bridge, rather than adding it to streaming servers. All streaming traffic passing through the bridge is secured, regardless of media format.
Widevine VOD can be co-developed for a specific VOD product in development, or deployed in an existing set-top box or network. Widevine VOD has the power to secure digital content as it travels through the pipe to a set-top box, PVR or hand-held device. It can then secure that same content during playback, helping to alleviate security concerns and speed deployment VOD services.
