Secure Broadcasting of Live and On-Demand Digital Content Being Co-Marketed by eblix.com and Widevine Technologies, Inc.™

Powered by Widevine Technologies' IPcypher™ Intelligent, Real-Time Data Encryption Technology, eblix.com is Speeding Access to Encrypted Broadcasting

Oslo, Norway & Seattle, WA, April 30, 2002 – Truly secure broadcasting of real-time and on-demand digital content is now possible through a co-marketing relationship between eblix.com and Widevine Technologies. The two companies have created a partnership designed to protect content from being copied or stolen during distribution.

"As broadband and IPTV market opportunities skyrocket, our customers are uniquely poised to outpace their competitors and digital pirates on many fronts," said John Beyer, chief executive officer, Widevine Technologies Inc. "From movies to concerts, and educational content to sporting events, owners of digital content are being more aggressive than ever as they protect their assets from being copied or stolen during broadcast and distribution."

Recently, Widevine Technologies Inc. launched its upgraded edition, Widevine Cypher™ 1.2.0, a patent-pending network security technology, providing a single solution for secure distribution, delivery, and control of digital data over every stage of an IP -based network.

Widevine Cypher 1.2.0, includes the following enhancements and more:

  • Uses AES encryption, the newly-mandated U.S. government encryption algorithm
  • Supports fail over, enhancing transparent operation and efficiency
  • Provides content delivery statistics
  • Enhances support for SNMP
  • Interfaces with the Web in a more elegant and user-friendly manner
  • Upgraded anti-piracy software
  • Supports gigabit Ethernet networks
  • Cleared for export under the U.S. Department of Commerce rules and regulations
  • Secures digital content broadcast utilizing Real Media, Windows Media, Quicktime, MPEG2, MPEG4, H.323 and other formats

"Today's DRM technologies do not go far enough in protecting streamed digital media content," said Stein Aanensen, chief executive officer, eblix.com. "Widevine with its IPcypher technology offers an extra layer of security on the client side to prevent streaming media from being copied digitally to storage devices such as hard disks. Widevine's approach to the challenge offers a quick route to market, no interference with existing infrastructure as a result of their plug-and-play model, as well as their thin client approach which does not challenge the end-user."
