Widevine Technologies, Inc. Announces General Availability of Widevine Cypher™ Version 2.1.4

Firm announces shipment of the industry’s first Virtual SmartCard based Content Security Solution for iTV Services

Seattle, WA, November 25, 2003 –Widevine Technologies, Inc. announced today the general availability of its popular Widevine Cypher Suite version 2.1.4. This next generation of content security solution is designed for Broadband Operators deploying iTV services such as VOD, PVR and digital Broadcast.

“The general availability of Widevine Cypher has opened the floodgates of demand. Operators have been searching for strong content security solutions that do not involve a smart card,” said John Hoskins, Sr. VP of Marketing and Sales of Widevine. “We have spent the last year perfecting the solution to meet the specific requirements of Broadband Operators world wide.”

Cypher 2.1.4 is based upon the industry’s only Virtual SmartCard. Embedding smart card functions into a software module is the unique way to increase functionality and lower costs. The solution is currently being installed at ChungHwa Telecom (see announcement from July 19, 2003: ChungHwa Telecom Selects Widevine Technologies Virtual SmartCard . . .) and will begin deployments at Operators in Europe, Australia, and Japan.

The solution is integrated at ChungHwa with Orca middleware, Thirdspace OVS, and Pace DSL 4000 and IP420 Set Top Boxes. “In fact, Widevine Cypher is the only known security solution to run on the Pace DSL 4000,” said Morten. “We were able to reach AES 128 bit encryption without any visible affects. This is a testament to the efficiency of the Widevine solution.”

Key features of Widevine Cypher 2.1.4 include:

• Virtual SmartCard – security features in a secure software implementation. Provides rapid renewal of security and a lower cost per subscriber
• Application Level encryption – leaves critical control data in the clear, providing transparent encryption that may now persist through the network
• Pre-encryption for VOD – VOD files are now encrypted prior to ingestion on the server allowing – without affecting trick play
• VOD assets are persistently encrypted
• Support for Pace, Kreatel, Thomson, Amino, and Fujitsu Siemens set top boxes
• Compatible with Thirdspace, Concurrent, and Kasenna VOD Servers; Tandberg and Optibase encoders
