Widevine Technologies® Announces Support of Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) DRM Version 2.0
Widevine Cypher™ now supports mobile content security
Seattle, WA, November 15, 2004 –Widevine® Technologies, the recognized leading supplier of content security solutions to the video over IP market and developer of the first downloadable conditional access system, known as the Cypher Virtual SmartCard™, today announced support for OMA DRM V2.0 in its Widevine Cypher® brand of security products. The support will provide mobile service providers operators with more choices for content security.
Widevine Cypher is currently the widest deployed IPTV security solution and the addition of OMA DRM 2.0 support will allow mobile video and audio service providers access to the same premium content enjoyed by Widevine’s current install base.
The Widevine Cypher mobile edition leverages key Widevine technologies for content protection, encryption, and rights management. Widevine has built on its strengths to create one mobile DRM solution for all types of content and for multiple delivery mechanisms - downloading, streaming, unicasting, multicasting, and broadcasting.
"Widevine Cypher has been developed using standards and open interfaces since it's inception" stated Glenn Morten, VP of Engineering and CTO of Widevine. "We feel OMA has made advances in the area of standardizing mobile DRM that will be an excellent compliment to our current product."
“Many of our customers have expressed strong interest in extending their business models to the lucrative mobile community” said John Hoskins, Sr. VP of Marketing and Sales with Widevine. “This advancement in Widevine Cypher will enable higher value content to be distributed to mobile devices, increasing revenue opportunities and adoption.”
Widevine Cypher’s strong content protection mechanisms support and extend purchase models defined within the OMA DRM V2.0 standard, allowing premium content rights to be secured and ensure that use of such content will drive new revenues and profits: such as, single purchase, subscriptions, secure super distribution, pay-per-time, rental, gifting, free preview, plus pay-per-use and metering functions. The Cypher Virtual SmartCard leverages the hardware security mechanisms found in the mobile device and couples that with soft methods, creating multiple levels of security.
