Widevine® Technologies Terminates Secure Video Processor (SVP) Alliance Membership

The Only “Non-NDS” Digital Television Security Member Departs the Group

Burbank, CA and Seattle WA, June 6, 2005 –Widevine Technologies, the most widely deployed content security provider for the video over IP market worldwide, and the first downloadable content security member of the SVP Alliance, today announced its intent to resign from the SVP Alliance.

"Widevine joined the SVP alliance in order to foster low cost, non-proprietary solutions for distributing secure content beyond the set-top-box," stated Glenn Morten, Chief Technology Officer and VP of Engineering. "Our goal was to explore the options for speeding retail availability of secure video player options. After one year of membership and careful consideration Widevine believes the SVP Alliance is ultimately not in the best interest of service operators, consumer electronics manufacturers, content owners or the consumer."

The SVP Alliance was launched by NDS to promote adoption of SVP Alliance content protection technology in digital home networks and consumer electronic devices. SVP was intended to be an open specification that can be licensed on fair and nondiscriminatory terms by industry players. However, Widevine Technologies concluded that the licensing, infrastructure complexity, and security renewal limitations are not appropriate for next generation content protection.
