Widevine® Technologies Joins Coral Consortium

Focus on creating open platform architecture to secure distribution of video and music

Seattle WA, August 11, 2005 –Widevine Technologies, the most deployed provider of comprehensive conditional access and digital rights management (DRM) for video operators and the industry leader in securing content on open architecture platforms, today announced it has joined the Coral Consortium.

The Coral Consortium (www.coral-interop.org) is a forum comprising representatives from across the content distribution value chain that are creating a voluntary standard to provide for interoperability among disparate DRM approaches. Its membership includes three major film studios and all four major record labels.

“Widevine is the most integrated content security vendor for the major video-on-demand (VOD), middleware, set-top box (STB) and personal video recorder (PVR) vendors today,” said Glenn Morten, CTO and VP of Engineering at Widevine Technologies. “The widely deployed nature of Widevine Cypher®, along with our strong studio and broadcaster relationships enables Widevine to embed downloadable, renewable Cypher Virtual SmartCard™ clients into processing chips, STBs, PVRs, PCs, mobile devices, portable media players and other consumer electronics devices.” Widevine intends to bring Coral Consortium based interoperable products to the market as part of its efforts to expand operators’ content service domains.
