Widevine Cypher® Virtual SmartCard™ Protects Content Running on Texas Instruments Chipset

Focus on video quality, performance and Widevine Secured chipsets for video consumer devices

Seattle WA, August 24, 2005 –Widevine Technologies, the most deployed provider of comprehensive conditional access and digital rights management (DRM) for video operators today announced its Cypher Virtual SmartCard™ (VSC) is fully integrated with Texas Instruments TMS320DM642 digital media processor. This enables device manufacturers to produce products using the computational power provided by the TI DSP with the comprehensive content security system provided by Widevine. Time to market is reduced because the development work needed to integrate the Widevine solution with TI’s DM642 digital media processor has already been completed. The combination of powerful DSP technology with Widevine’s downloadable client security system enables the manufacture of devices that receive and display protected content.

The TI DM642 is a high performance digital media processor, built on the proven architecture of TI's TMS320C64x™ generation of DSPs, that delivers support for advanced codecs like MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 and Microsoft’s Windows Media Advanced Profile/VC1 for superior video quality at higher compression ratios than MPEG-2 provides. DSPs are increasingly used in video electronics devices because of their powerful and flexible ability to accommodate and render video signals from several sources. One such device utilizing the DM642 is the Amino AmiNet 124—an IP set-top box providing support for MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 in a compact form-factor.
