Widevine® Defines Content Security for Video Operators with Third Generation Widevine Cypher 3.0

Cypher 3.0 enables video operators to acquire high value content and increase revenue opportunities for their interactive TV services

Seattle WA, August 31, 2005 –Widevine Technologies, the most deployed provider of comprehensive conditional access systems (CAS) and digital rights management (DRM) for video operators, today introduced Cypher 3.0, the third generation content security suite with new levels of reliability, flexibility and ease-of- use.

Designed to meet the needs of telco, cable, satellite and internet services providers, Cypher is the preferred solution for more than 40 operators worldwide who have determined a comprehensive CA and DRM solution from a single vendor best meets their requirements for acquiring high quality content.

Cypher 3.0 now guarantees continuous availability for any type of content, on any device, at any time—a critical requirement for operators who differentiate on service quality. With expanded ecosystem support for several new standard and high-definition set-top boxes and PVRs from Amino, ASUS, HwaCom and Motorola, Widevine continues to secure the widest range of ecosystem partners in the video industry. Through improved security assurance, Cypher 3.0 offers better reporting and simplified management of broadcast and VOD content security at all points in the network, which further lowers operating costs.

Cypher 3.0 also supports standard-definition and high-definition content, including all the major media formats including MPEG-2, H.264 and VC-1. On the client side, it continues to take advantage of Widevine’s patented downloadable and renewable Cypher Virtual SmartCard clients to protect set-top boxes, PVRs, PCs and mobile devices.

“Widevine’s mission is to continue raising the bar for what a comprehensive conditional access and digital rights management system should offer video operators,” said Widevine President and CEO, Brian Baker. “With Widevine Cypher now in its third generation, operators can continue to count on Widevine for a reliable, flexible and easy to manage comprehensive conditional access and digital rights management suite that enables them to acquire the high quality content they require to quickly grow and differentiate their interactive TV services.”

"As IPTV subscriber numbers grow at a projected CAGR of 90%—to approximately 25 million homes worldwide by 2008—so will the demands on operators to protect their interactive content with a comprehensive conditional access and digital rights management suite like Widevine Cypher," said Bob Larribeau, MRG Senior Analyst. "Operators in all market sectors will increasingly look to the leading vendors such as Widevine, who have a proven track record and have been accepted by content providers."
