Widevine® Technologies Selected by Denmark's Tre-For to Protect Premium Broadcast Channels & Video-On-Demand
Amsterdam, The Netherlands, September 7, 2006 –Widevine Technologies, the world’s leading provider of downloadable content protection, digital forensics and digital copy protection solutions, today announced that Tre-For of Denmark has chosen Widevine to protect its premium broadcast channels and video-on-demand services.
Tre-For’s Profiber service offers customers in the region Internet, telephone services and television delivered by a range of Danish and international service providers. Customers currently choose between only two or three TV packages, but its fiber new network will enable delivery of hundreds of IPTV channels, including foreign programming.
Tre-For’s choice of Widevine Cypher®, a downloadable conditional access and digital rights management suite, was a strategic decision based on the scalability of the content protection platform and proven global deployments. Its large range of integrations with middleware, set top boxes and video-on-demand servers, enable Widevine to perform seamlessly with Tre-For’s entire platform to meet its aggressive roll-out of services to customers.
“Tre-For evaluated Widevine along with other content protection vendors including Latens and Irdeto. Widevine proved to be the best solution,” said Keld Damsbo, Chief Technical Officer at Tre-For. “Only Widevine offers a downloadable client with a PC-based Windows Media Player plug-in that lets our customers watch TV on PCs. Additionally, Widevine can meet our emerging needs as we evaluate other services such as web-based video services delivered to PCs and mobile phones. Overall, we felt that Widevine is more dedicated to the job and responsive—it’s important that I can depend upon my content protection vendor not only for the technology, but also for the level of responsiveness that Widevine has proven they can offer.”
“Denmark’s broadband penetration is one of the highest in Europe making it an exciting time for Tre-For as it rolls out new services that its customers are asking for. Widevine is pleased to protect Tre-For’s entire multimedia service delivery to PCs and other devices throughout the home. With Widevine, Tre-For is improving their ability to compete with incumbent cable and satellite video operators,” said Brian Baker, President and CEO of Widevine.
