Widevine® Selected by SureWest to Protect One of the Nation's Largest IPTV Deployments

Widevine chosen for unique downloadable conditional access, digital rights management and digital copy protection on multiple platforms

SEATTLE, WA, May 23, 2007 –Widevine Technologies, the world’s leading provider of downloadable content protection, forensic watermarking and digital copy protection solutions, today announced that leading independent telecommunications holding company SureWest Communications (NASDAQ: SURW) has chosen Widevine to protect its IPTV services, one of the largest such services in the United States.

SureWest chose Widevine in part because of Widevine’s comprehensive security solution, a solution that can integrate quickly and provide flexibility in delivering premium Hollywood content to set top boxes, PCs, PVRs and increasingly popular mobile devices. Additionally, SureWest also recognized Widevine’s strong TelcoTV track record in North America, its downloadable conditional access solution and its ability to secure content across a wide range of IP video devices.

“We are committed to meeting customer demand for new services,” said SureWest senior vice president and CTO Bill DeMuth. “With Widevine’s integration into our existing IPTV infrastructure, we expect to quickly deploy a successful and reliable solution. Widevine’s ability to protect content delivered on multiple platforms and multiple formats enhances our ability to roll-out new and improved services quickly. Acquiring the best content is critical for our success. Having a single security solution that fulfills the content owners’ requirements and our needs, with the flexibility to grow and deliver to the devices our customers want, enables us to remain very competitive.”

SureWest, the first service provider in the U.S. to offer high-definition TV over a fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) IP-based network, also claims the fastest residential Internet service in the nation with up to 50 Mbps for both uploading and downloading multimedia content. Its TV service includes 306 video and music channels and every premium channel—including 19 high definition channels—to its customers, as well as voice and high-speed Internet access.

“SureWest is very progressive in delivering its IP video services and now that their deployment has matured new security needs have emerged. SureWest’s selection of Widevine further proves that our core content protection technologies and proven security innovations enable service providers to license premium content and deliver new services their customers want. We are pleased to work with SureWest to secure the future of its IP video initiatives,” said Widevine’s CEO Brian Baker.
