Widevine® Awarded 2008 Product of the Year for Best Internet TV Technology

Widevine wins top award for Cypher for Digital Media

LONDON, March 13, 2008 — Widevine Technologies, the leading provider of downloadable conditional access, digital rights management and digital copy protection solutions for 130+ video operators worldwide, today announced that its highly successful Widevine Cypher® for Digital Media solution has won the prestigious IPTV World Forum Product of the Year Award for Best Internet TV. The solution has been selected by three major Hollywood studios for protecting the copyrights and revenues streams for their own digital media initiatives.

The awards recognize the industry’s premier solutions and enabling technologies. Judging was conducted by a panel of independent industry experts and analysts. Judges selected Cypher for Digital Media because of its unique ability to guarantee copyrights, pay media and ad-based revenue models for all major forms of digital media. The IPTV World Forum Series Awards received more than 100 entries in the areas of Internet, Cable, Telco and Satellite TV.

Widevine’s General Manager for EMEA, Yves Van Hecke stated, “Widevine has the only commercially available content protection solution for securing digital content delivered to PCs, Macs and Linux-based platforms. Our success with major content owners—who have chosen Widevine for their own Internet TV initiatives—is proof Widevine can further secure video operator expansion into PC services.”

Widevine Cypher for Digital Media is a multiplatform and multiformat content protection solution for securing linear broadcast, VOD, streamed media and file downloads. In contrast to traditional technologies which restrict content purchase and usage to specific devices, video formats and online services, Cypher for Digital Media secures the delivery and consumption of all major video formats on all major platforms.

This “Switzerland of DRM” approach for securing multimedia content enables content owners, internet service operators, telcos and cable operators the flexibility they require to deliver premium content to the widest possible audience. Widevine Cypher for Digital Media also includes a patented layer of post-decryption copy protection technology to thwart the hundreds of software tools on the Internet today that can be used to record and distribute content devoid of any protection, thereby denying content owners and operator their revenues.
